Italy, officially the Italian Republic (Italian: Repubblica Italiana), is a sovereign member state of the European Union. It is a bi-continental country; its territory is in Southern Europe and North Africa; its European territory (99.97%) conforms italics lapenínsula, the Po Valley and two large islands in the Mediterranean Sea: Sicily and Sardinia; African territory (0.03%) is made up of the islands of Lampedusa and Pantelleria Lampione. Italy is a democratic republic, is part of the G8, or Group of Eight most industrialized nations of the world and is a developed country with a high quality of life, found in 2005 among the top eight of world.7 Although had decreases in their positions with the passing of time, their quality of life is still considered very high.
Is the country number 26.º (report 2014) on high human development ahead of Spain and behind Eslovenia.3 is a founding member of the European Union, a signatory of the Treaty of Rome in 1957. He is also a founding member Organization of the North Atlantic Treaty (NATO) and member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the World Trade Organization, the Council of Europe and Western European Union. The country, and especially Rome, has a strong impact on issues of politics and culture, in world organizations as chuch for Food and Agriculture (FAO), 8 the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Glocal Forum, 9 or the World Food Programme (WFP).
